The application is called "WebConsumer" and consists of a Visual Basic program and a web application based on IIS 6.0 using aspx, Visual Basic and Documentum Foundation Classes. Documents are exported from the document management system as encrypted PDF files by a Visual Basic program to the WebConsumer server based on configurable rules. The program runs nightly on a schedule. As it executes, new documents are published and withdrawn documents are removed automatically. The documents are encrypted and can only be read from a valid AstraZeneca client PC. Security rules are also implemented so that the documents cannot be saved or printed locally on a client machine. Documents can only be printed in a controlled manner via the WebConsumer server where a watermark is added to show that the document is only valid for one day after printing.
